ISLAMABAD – The International Day of Peace is being observed on Saturday (today).
The theme of this year is Cultivating a Culture of Peace.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan is ready to work with the global community to promote a more peaceful and inclusive world for everyone.
In his message on World Peace Day, he said Pakistan strongly believes in fostering peace and stability in the region through dialogue and it is essential to resolve the longstanding disputes to effectively achieve this end.
Shehbaz Sharif said that the foundation for any lasting resolution in the region hinges solely on achieving a fair and just settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute peacefully through an impartial plebiscite and relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.
He said that we must also not overlook the plight of the innocent people of Palestine, who are courageously facing state of aggression.
For lasting peace in the Middle East, the Prime Minister said, a peaceful resolution of the dispute according to the UN resolutions and aspirations of the Palestinians is need of the hour.
