In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Indian troops in their fresh act of state terrorism martyred two Kashmiri youth in Baramulla district, on Friday.
The troops martyred the youth during a cordon and search operation at Yadipora in Pattan area of the district. Earlier, an Indian Army major was killed and a policeman was injured in an attack in the same area. Indian troops during house raids arrested three youth in Pattan. The troops also launched a cordon and search operation in Babhoora area of Pulwama district.
Meanwhile, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar welcomed the recent remarks of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation General Secretary, Yousuf Bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, wherein he reiterated OIC’s unambiguous stance on the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination and reaffirmed support for their freedom struggle. The APHC spokesman said that being a Muslim population, the people of Kashmir had high expectations from the OIC and hoped that it would expedite its efforts to highlight the Kashmiris’ plight.
Hurriyat leader, Javaid Ahmed Mir, in a statement in Srinagar said that the unresolved Kashmir dispute posed a serious threat to the peace in South Asia.
The Srinagar-Leh highway has been witnessing increased movement of Indian troops and vehicles transporting artillery towards Ladakh in the last couple of days. The eyewitnesses told media that a large number of Indian military vehicles, carrying troops and other artillery have been plying on the highway since Monday, following fresh faceoff between Indian and Chinese armies at South Bank of the Pangong Lake in eastern Ladakh. Indian media also reported that there had been a major build-up of Chinese tanks and infantry forces in the Pangong region of Ladakh in IIOJK.
The New York-based international rights watchdog, Human Rights Watch, in a statement posted on its website asked the Indian authorities to prohibit their armed forces from using pellet guns to disperse protesters in IIOJK.
It said that Indian police and paramilitary forces’ personnel used pellet firing shotguns as well as teargas shells at a Muharram procession in Srinagar on August 29, 2020, injuring dozens of people.
Meenakshi Ganguly, South Asia Director at Human Rights Watch, said the use of pellet guns in Kashmir by Indian forces time and again has resulted in shocking, grievous injuries of protesters and bystanders.—KMS
