ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s new prime minister Shehbaz Sharif returned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings on his selection as the new premier.

In his message on X, which is currently blocked in Pakistan, PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude to Narendra Modi for his diplomatic gesture.  “Thank you Narendra Modi for felicitations on my election as the Prime Minister of Pakistan,” the new premier said.

Indian PM conveyed congratulations to PM Sharif on taking reigns of a country of over 240 million in a brief post.

A couple of years back, Shehbaz Sharif extended olive branch to Modi and expressed desire for peace and stability.

Relations between Asian nations have been stagnant, particularly since the revocation of Indian-occupied Kashmir’s special status in August 2019. Islamabad also downgraded diplomatic ties and suspended bilateral trade, linking any future talks to India reversing its actions.
