Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan underwent a medical check-up at Adiala Jail on Sunday, according to jail sources.
A special team of doctors from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) examined the former prime minister inside the prison.
The medical assessment covered several health parameters, including blood pressure, cholesterol levels and eye examinations.
The Pims team was led by Dr Arif Khan, while medical personnel from the Adiala Jail hospital also participated in the examination, according to the sources.
Imran Khan, 73, has been incarcerated since August 2023 after being convicted in several cases. He and the PTI have repeatedly described the cases against him as politically motivated.
The former premier has faced a number of legal proceedings since he was removed from office through a no-confidence vote in April 2022, including cases concerning state gifts and his marriage.
On August 18, the Supreme Court ordered jail authorities to shift Imran to Shifa International Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
He was subsequently taken to Pims instead, with the government citing security concerns. Doctors from Shifa were also present during the examination at Pims, according to the government.
The PTI has announced a nationwide protest and a march towards Islamabad on September 27, seeking the release of its founder and calling for what it describes as the supremacy of the Constitution.
Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said on Sunday that his party remained open to negotiations with the government, but talks had made little progress amid what he described as a “cold” political environment.
Gohar said negotiations should continue, but no progress had so far been made.
Commenting on recent court proceedings concerning the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief, the PTI chairman said the court should not have required the inspector general of police to submit an affidavit.
