RAWALPINDI – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan claimed that former ISI Chief General retired Faiz Hameed would be used against him as an approver.
Imran Khan said the ongoing drama surrounding Hameed’s arrest is intended to shift his case to the military courts.
He argued that all the charges against him are baseless and would not stand up in court, suggesting that the real agenda is to move his case to a military courts.
He made these remarks during an informal talk with the journalists at Adiala Jail on Monday.
Imran Khan expressed concern that Hameed would be used as an approver in the case, saying that Hameed is alleged to be the mastermind behind the events of May 9. Imran Khan challenged the authorities to apprehend Hameed if he indeed ordered Khan’s alleged abduction.
He emphasized that his only knowledge of Hameed comes from General Bajwa, who had praised Hameed as the most competent general.
The PTI founder criticized claims that Hameed was responsible for directing attacks during the peaceful protests, questioning how protests could have occurred if he was allegedly abducted. He expressed no fear of Hameed’s statements, asserting his innocence.
Imran Khan also discussed his efforts to combat terrorism in collaboration with the Afghan government, which were reportedly hindered by the removal of General Hameed and the appointment of a new ISI chief at the behest of Nawaz Sharif. He lamented the internal betrayal by Bajwa, which led to the fall of his government.
The PTI founder said that attempts are being made to imprison him and his wife by using his former office boy as an approver. He accused the government of orchestrating a regime change conspiracy against PTI and criticized the current state of the country’s justice system, likening it to a banana republic where fairness is lacking.
Regarding Faiz Hameed’s alleged involvement, Imran Khan dismissed the accusations as attempts to discredit him and stressed that his cases would eventually be resolved in court.
He also highlighted recent remarks made by Khawaja Asif and Mohammad Zubair, who suggested that General Bajwa’s actions were driven by his own interests.
Imran Khan reiterated his belief in the strengthening of PTI, saying that his party achieved success despite many challenges.
