ISLAMABAD – International Monetary Fund (IMF)once again demanded an increase of at least Rs5 in electricity tariffs, the sources familiar with the development said on Wednesday.
The sources said that the electricity may become Rs5 per unit more expensive before July 10.
During the virtual talks, the IMF was informed about the difficult decision, and measures to increase gas prices were briefed to the IMF.
The sources from the Ministry of Finance said that the IMF is satisfied with the steps taken for economic improvement.
The significant progress on the new loan program is expected by the end of this month.
The sources said that pre-emptive actions related to the increase in electricity tariffs will be fully implemented.
They also said that staff-level negotiations on the new loan program were held in May, and since then, Pakistan achieved the most of the preconditions.
