Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam for Inaugurated first ever nucleus seed harvest through tissue culture and aeroponic technology in Pakistan at National Agriculture Research Center, Islamabad.
During the Ceremony Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Ali, Chairman Pakistan Agricultural Research Council briefed the Federal Minister about the present potato crop status in the country and efforts of PARC for the seed production and indigenous varieties devolvement in the country.
Syed Fakhar Imam, (MNFS&R) briefed HOMSA members on Pakistan’s agricultural production and future prospects for food for a growing population. He appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Agricultural Research Council for the development of potato seed production and development programs and facilities for different varieties of potatoes and hoped that such innovative techniques and commercialization of potato tissue culture would come to Pakistan.
In three years, potato production will increase to 28 tons per hectare and the country’s total potato production will increase to 5.6 million tons, thus not only it will meet the country food and seed requirements but will be able to export to the neighboring countries and definitely boost the economy of farmers and the country.
On the initiative of M/o NFS&R, Government of Pakistan, PARC has also established aeroponic potato Seed Production facility at NIGAB, NARC with collaboration of Korean Government RDA-KOPIA Pakistan.
