Imaan Mazari, Hadi Chatha arrested in controversial tweet case

Islamabad Court Orders Arrest Presentation Of Imaan Mazari Her Husband

ISLAMABAD – Human rights activist and lawyer Imaan Mazari Advocate and his husband Hadi Ali Chatha were arrested on Friday in controversial tweet case after days of hide and seek.

A team of the special squad of the Islamabad police took them into custody when they were travelling in a vehicle of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association.

The police team intercepted the vehicle near Sarena Chowk as the duo was going to the distric courts to seek bail in their cases.

The development comes after an anti-terrorism court cancelled their bails in the case.

A day earlier, the couple made it clear that they will not back down from their stance on the controversial tweets case.

In a recent media conversation, the couple reiterated their commitment to their position, asserting that they would stand firm, even if it meant facing imprisonment.

Earlier, the district and sessions court in Islamabad had ordered Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha to appear in person in relation to the case concerning their controversial tweets.

However, the Islamabad High Court, in a written judgment, declared the trial court’s order null and void. The ruling also stated that the couple should not be arrested in connection with the case.

The court granted Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha four days to cross-examine the witnesses. If they fail to appear before the trial court, the order will be considered void.
