The High Court of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir upheld illegal detention of Jamaat-e-Islami chief Dr. Abdul Hameed Fayaz under black law Public Safety Act.

A bench of Justice M. A. Chowdhary while dismissing a petition filed by Dr Fayaz’s wife, seeking quashing of the detention order under PSA by District Magistrate Shopian on 16 September last year.

The detention record, the court said, indicates that the Dr Fayaz is a highly qualified person and has completed Ph.D degree from Kashmir Univer-sity and he was affiliated with Jamaat-e-Islami from college life and subsequently he was selected as “Ameer” of Jamaat-e-Islami J&K in the year 2018.

The detention record further stated that Dr Fayaz was a strong motivator and supporter of right to self determination and was acting to azaadi from India and to its consequent merger with Pakistan.—KMS
