PTI suspends membership of MNA for violating party discipline
Islamabad High Court on Saturday suspended the notification on the 11 resignations of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf approved by Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
The IHC issued a written decision on the petition against accepting the resignation of PTI’s elected MNA Shakoor Shad. IHC CJ Athar Minullah issued orders on the request of PTI member Abdul Shakoor.
The resignations of Ali Muhammad Khan, Fazal Muhammad Khan, Shaukat Ali, Fakhr Zaman Khan, Ijaz Ahmad Shah, Jameel Ahmed Khan, Muhammad Akram Cheema, Abdul Shakur Shaad, Farrukh Habib, Shireen Mazari and Shandana Gulzar were accepted.
The Islamabad High Court suspended the notification of acceptance of PTI members’ resignation and also stopped the process of accepting the resignations of 11 members of the Assembly while also suspending the notification of acceptance of resignation of the ECP.
On the other hand, the PTI on Saturday suspended the party membership of lawmaker Abdul Shakoor Shad and issued him a show-cause notice for filing a petition in the Islamabad High Court, stating that he had never resigned as an MNA and for speaking against the party.
The show-cause notice issued by the party’s Sindh chapter said that Shad had stated “countless times, both verbally and in writing”, that he had resigned but he “suddenly went against the party policy” and filed in a petition in the IHC contradicting his statements.
The notice also said that Shad had spoken against the party on “various occasions”. It directed the MNA to submit his response within seven days, adding that till that time, Shad’s basic party membership was suspended and he ceased to hold any party office or position.
The action was necessitated after Shakoor Shad again became member of the National Assembly, though all the party legislators had resigned from the lower house of the parliament.
On Friday last, the Islamabad High Court had suspended the notification relating to the acceptance of PTI MNA Abdul Shakoor Shad’s resignation and instructed him to attend the assembly session.
