The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday restored Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) declaring last year’s presidential ordinance of dissolving the council and setting up a new Pakistan Medical Commission as null and void.
In its decision, the court also reinstated over 250 employees of the council.
In a short order announced Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani also declared dissolution of the newly-formed Pakistan Medial Commission (PMC) illegal.
After the verdict was announced, the reinstated employees, who had petitioned against the government move to dissolve PMDC were seen congratulating each other inside the court premises.
In October last year, President Dr Arif Alvi had promulgated an ordinance that had left the PMDC dissolved and paved the way for the establishment of PMC.
The dissolution of the PMDC was regretted and condemned by employees of the council as well as the civil society and Senators who passed several resolutions in the Upper House against laying off of hundreds of employees of the PMDC.
