A comprehensive meeting focused on the safety and movements of Chinese nationals engaged in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and non-CPEC projects took place under the leadership of IGP Sindh Ghulam Nabi Meiman. The session was hosted at the Central Police Office in Karachi and included contributions from senior officials, such as the Additional IG Karachi, various DIGs, and members of the Special Branch via video link.
During the meeting, the DIG of the Special Branch and the Special Protection Unit (SPU) briefed attendees on the current security strategies for safeguarding Chinese citizens along with necessary recommendations. A thorough survey has already been conducted to evaluate the security arrangements specifically tailored for Chinese individuals associated with CPEC and non-CPEC initiatives. The security audits have been a collaborative effort involving representatives from the Special Branch, district police, the SPU, and other law enforcement agencies across various districts.
The Special Branch has prepared an in-depth security audit report detailing the existing security landscape, required resources, challenges faced, and actionable recommendations, which will soon be submitted for review. To enhance safety, retired military personnel are being assigned to oversee the security of Chinese nationals.
IGP Ghulam Nabi Meiman emphasized the necessity for ensuring comprehensive security for Chinese residents and mandated that police and private security personnel assigned to protect them receive clearance from relevant authorities.
Furthermore, he directed the Special Branch, SPU, and district police to develop a cohesive strategy for implementing security protocols for Chinese citizens. Strict scrutiny procedures must be adhered to by the Special Branch concerning the hosts, companies, staff, residential areas, and transit routes involved with Chinese nationals before the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs).
The IGP highlighted the importance of regular security briefings for all personnel assigned to safeguard Chinese citizens, ensuring they are well-equipped to fulfill their duties. This rigorous approach reflects a commitment to the safety of foreign nationals contributing to vital projects in the region.
