According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi are currently holding an important meeting, with discussions reportedly focused on Imran Khan’s possible transfer to the hospital in light of the Supreme Court’s decision.
The PTI founder is expected to be shifted to hospital today for medical treatment under the Supreme Court’s directives.
Two days ago, the Supreme Court ordered Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment, although the former prime minister has remained in Adiala Jail so far. The court issued the directive on medical grounds, following repeated concerns raised by Khan’s legal team and family regarding his health and the medical facilities available to him.
A three-member Supreme Court bench directed that Imran Khan be transferred to Shifa International Hospital for treatment.
Under court’s order, Khan’s personal physician Dr Faisal Sultan and his sister Dr Uzma Khan will be allowed to remain with him, while members of his family will be permitted to meet him once a week.
Supreme Court has adjourned the case until the 16th of next month and directed that Imran Khan remain under treatment at the hospital during this period. During the hearing, the court also raised questions regarding the cost of treatment at the private hospital and the confidentiality of Imran Khan’s medical reports.
His lawyer assured the court that the family would bear all treatment expenses, while Salman Akram Raja guaranteed that the medical reports would not be used for political purposes.
With security tightened around Islamabad and Shifa International Hospital, all eyes are now on whether Imran Khan will finally be moved from Adiala Jail for treatment.
