Prof. Dr. FarzanaShaheen, Director of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at the University of Karachi raised concerns over the meeting of the biased Selection Board held for the appointment of the new ICCBS Director.

Speaking at a meeting with ICCBS officials on Thursday, she clarified that the two candidates — Prof FarzanaShaheen and Prof ShabanaSimjee — appeared on the selection board to record their protest on the bias of selection board members, and left the board without giving interviews.

It is important to note that two members of the selection board are also adjunct or visiting faculty at the ICCBS who will ironically select the office bearer, responsible for evaluating their performance, she said.

Two Selection board members NadiraPanjwani and Aziz Jamal in their appeal to the High Court have leveled serious allegations against the head of the institution (Prof. FarzanaShaheen), she maintained.

Furthermore, their lawyers issued legal notices to 149 faculty and staff members, she mentioned. They maligned the center’s head in all those notices triggering a mass defamation campaign so donors’ presence on the selection board is a matter of severe conflict of interest and the process of selection cannot be transparent, she added.
