Says alarming reports of torture, abuse

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Hammad Azhar expressed his shock over the alarming reports of torture and abuse on political prisoners in Pakistan, demanding that human rights organisations and international media must be given access to these prisoners. In a strong reaction to the reports of torture and abuse on political prisoners languishing in various jails across the country, PTI senior leader said that there were over 10,000 political prisoners in Pakistan right now.

Hammad expressed alarm that there were reports of torture and abuse on them. Therefore, he demanded: “Authorities must give access to human rights organisations and international media to visit the police stations and jails and speak to these prisoners.”

Meanwhile Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Faisal Javed called on Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial to take action on the plight of women in jails across Pakistan and demanded that female prisoners be released. In a statement on Sunday, PTI senator urged that Champion of women’s rights and people in other political parties especially women and the media must take a stand and speak up for women’s rights.

He asked where are the champions of women’s rights today and will they not at least raise their voice, adding that a people in other political parties especially women and the media must take a stand and speak up for women’s rights. “We request the Chief Justice to take immediate action for the plight of women in jails across Pakistan,” he added. On the other hand Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Information Secretary Rauf Hassan said that Rana Sanaullah’s midnight presser was a virtual confession of heinous crimes which the criminal government was committing on political internees, most notably female prisoners and called upon Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to immediately initiate a high-level enquiry to look into the heinous crimes.

In a strong-worded statement on Sunday, PTI Central Information Secretary said that after Rana’s presser last night, credible doubts have been cast on the welfare of political internees, particularly women.
