LAHORE – The Punjab government has launched Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat (My Roof, Safe Roof) scheme 2026 to help citizens strengthen their existing home or expand home with additional storey.
The government has introduced two loan categories under scheme. Citizens who want to repair their existing roofs or strengthen the infrastructure can apply for the Rs500,000 interest free loan. The monthly installment will be Rs4,700 with tenure for repaying the loan standing at nine years.
In the second category, citizens can apply for Rs1 million interest free loans to construct another storey of their homes. For this, the monthly installments stands at Rs9,300 for the period of nine years.
How to Apply Online
Interested citizens can apply for the Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat loan scheme online through acag.punjab.gov.pk. They need to enter their credentials to get registered for the programme.
Applicants can also Submit Application By-Hand
Those who cannot use computers are required to submit their loan applications at the offices of deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency.
Why Punjab Launched Apni Chhat Mehfooz Chhat
The initiative was launched by the Punjab government after 14 children lost their lives after a roof collapsed during repair work/
Addressing an event, she said the disaster highlighted the urgent need for safer housing structures. She said the Punjab government introduced the “Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat” initiative to improve the safety and stability of residential buildings across the province.
She added that extreme weather events, including heavy rainfall and strong winds, can weaken poorly constructed roofs and walls, increasing the risk of deadly accidents.
She further stated that the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” housing scheme has helped nearly 200,000 families transition from rented homes to owning their own residences, providing them with more secure living conditions.
