KARACHI – The residents of Karachi are likely to experience another day of hot and humid weather, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting warm and muggy conditions across the city on Friday.
The Met Office said that the weather is expected to remain hot and humid throughout the day, with the maximum temperature likely to rise to 36 degrees Celsius. Although the temperature itself is not unusually high for this time of year, elevated humidity levels are expected to make conditions feel significantly warmer and more uncomfortable.
The PMD reported that the humidity level in the city stands at 69 percent, contributing to the persistent feeling of mugginess that has affected Karachi over the past several days. The combination of high temperatures and moisture in the air is expected to increase the heat index, making outdoor activities more challenging, particularly during the afternoon.
The meteorological officials said westerly winds are blowing at a speed of around 9 kilometres per hour, providing only limited relief from the prevailing heat and humidity.
They advised residents to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak daytime hours, stay well-hydrated, and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.
Despite the generally hot conditions, the PMD has also forecast the possibility of light drizzle in isolated parts of the city later in the day. While the expected rainfall is unlikely to bring a significant drop in temperatures, it may offer temporary relief in some neighbourhoods.
Karachi has witnessed fluctuating weather patterns during the ongoing monsoon season, with intermittent light rain and drizzle occurring in recent weeks. However, high humidity has continued to dominate the city’s weather, keeping the heat index elevated.
The PMD said it is closely monitoring the evolving weather situation and will issue updated forecasts if conditions change.
The residents are encouraged to stay informed through official weather advisories and plan outdoor activities accordingly, especially during periods of intense heat and humidity.
