Home minister reviews law and order measures

A special meeting was held here to review the Law-and-Order situation in the province with particular reference to various matters related to the repatriation of illegal immigrants/ foreign nationals. The meeting was chaired by the caretaker minister for Home and Prisons Sindh Brig. (R) Haris Nawaz was participated by Secretary Home Department, Muhammad Iqbal Memon; Additional Inspector General of Police, Karachi; Commissioner, Karachi; Deputy Director General, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh), Karachi; DIG SPU; DIGP, CTD; DIGP, Special Branch; Karachi Zonal DIGsP, Senior representatives of different Intelligence Agencies and Rep of NADRA, and others.

The Home Minister appreciated the roles played by various departments and institutions, particularly Rangers, Police and district administration, in providing facilities and accommodations for the returning migrants. He directed to accelerate the pace of the deportation process. He further said that every Tuesday follow up meeting will be held to review the progress of returning of illegal immigrants.

It was informed at the meeting that the Finance Department Sindh has released the required estimated funds to facilitate the ongoing repatriation process in the province. Emphasizing the importance of transparency in all expenses related to the illegal immigrant’s evacuation process, the Home Minister stressed upon strict adherence to rules and regulations governing these expenses and to evolve a mechanism to ensure transparency.

The city police chief briefed the Home Minister about the overall law and order issues, especially the street crimes. The Home Minister pointed out that it was the government’s basic responsibility to provide protection to the life and property of the people and to ensure peace. He directed the authorities concerned to take all possible measures to maintain the flow of daily life, economic activities and peaceful environment.

“Enhancement of security measures at all levels must be ensured in coordination with police and rangers, further augmented by the intelligence services”, he added.

The meeting also deliberated on the menace of drugs in the city, especially in educational institutions. Home Minister while reviewing the progress report of police actions and arrests against drug mafia, directed to enhance the ongoing operations against the elements involved in the sale, purchase of drugs, their operatives and patrons.

he Home Minister also received a security briefing on Chinese nationals working in projects related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other ventures. He observed that foolproof security of Chinese nationals working on all development projects, including CPEC and Non-CPEC, was the top priority and, there¬fore, solid security measures must be ensured.
