The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday sought reply from the federation of Pakistan, ministry of petroleum and OGRA on a petition against rise in prices of oil by April 15. The constitutional petition (107/ 2020) was filed by Pasban Democratic Party (PDP). A bench of SHC comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Yousuf Ali Saeed heard the petition, issued notices to the Federation, ministry of petroleum and OGRA to file their comments and submit the mechanism of raising fuel prices. However, Pasban lawyer Irfan Aziz talking to media outside the court said that the government has increased the oil prices about 16 times, illegally and unconstitutionally. He said petrol which should be sold to the general public at about Rs70 per liter is being sold at Rs115 per liter. Meanwhile, PDP leader Sheikh Waseemuddin has said the hike in oil prices affects transport sector, as well as, whole economy. He demanded that all unnecessary direct and indirect taxes on petroleum products should be lifted to give relief to the poor masses of Pakistan. He said a rational taxation system would not only provide relief to public but also increase confidence of citizens in government policies.
