The Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISC) MoU signing ceremony was hosted by IPO-Paksitan in Karachi between Higher education Commission, IPO-Pakistan and two prestigious universities of Karachi, namely; Jinnah University for Women, Karachi and Institute of Business administration, Sukhar.
TISC networks have been established in 80 developing and least developing countries including, Russia, Phillipines, Morroco, Columbia, Bangladesh, Srilanka, Kenya etc, to name a few. In Pakistan the Technology and Innovation Support Centers have been established by IPO Pakistan in collaboration with WIPO and Higher Education Commission.
The primary objective of the proposed TISC network is to promote the use of patent information among the researchers, entrepreneurs, IP managers, attorneys, Govt officials and policy makers by making the national and international patent databases accessible to them.
These centers will also act as one stop shop of other IP services. A service level agreement (SLA) has been signed between IPO Pakistan and WIPO to establish TISC networks in Pakistan.
In the first phase twentysevenTISCs have been established in selected universities/research. In the second phase 13 TISCs have been formed including the TISC materialized in today’s ceremony.
The Executive Director IPO Pakistan asserted that TISCs are focusing on IP commercialization and Patent development. Furthermore, the Director HEC Noshaba also emphasized on the socio- economic impact of IP research and developmentand that the better IP culture may lead to enhanced scientific research and development.
