Heatwave likely to persist in Lahore, Punjab with 06-08°C above normal temperatures

LAHORE – Heatwaves will likely persist in Lahore and most parts of Punjab till May 27 with 06 to 08°C above normal day temperatures, says the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

As per the synoptic situation, continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. High pressure prevails in the upper atmosphere, which will likely persist this week.

Under these conditions, heatwaves will likely persist in Lahore and most parts of Punjab till May 27 with 06 to 08°C above normal day temperatures. In the Potohar region, day temperatures will remain 04 to 06°C above normal levels.

Lahore’s maximum temperatures will likely stay between 45-47°C on Thursday and Friday.

Meanwhile, hot and dry weather prevailed in Lahore and most parts of the province during the last 24 hours with 04-06°C above normal day temperatures.

Noorpur Thal and Khairpur remained the hottest places in the province where the maximum temperature was recorded at 48°C. Maximum temperature in Rahim Yar Khan, Bawalnagar, Kot Addu and Bhakkar was recorded at 47°C, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan 46°C and Sahiwal, Multan and Sargodha 45°C.

In Lahore, the maximum temperature was recorded at 44°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 21 per cent.
