LAHORE – The 22nd death anniversary of iconic Urdu poet legendary Urdu poet Syed Sibt-e-Asghar Naqvi, commonly known as Jaun Elia was observed on Friday, and poets, literary geeks, and his fans paid tribute to the “Poet of Sadness”.
Jaun Elia’s legacy was honored due to his immense contribution to literature. Through social media tributes and public reflections, the literary community celebrated the powerful and evocative poetry that continues to shape Urdu literature.
The late poet was born on December 14, 1931, in Amroha, India, and was part of highly educated family. His father, Shafiq Elia, was a distinguished scholar with knowledge in multiple languages, including Arabic, and Persian.
A child prodigy, Jaun Elia got his education at Syed-ul-Madaris in Amroha. He later married writer Zahida Hina, but the couple separated in 1992. Despite martial struggles, Jaun’s creative genius flourished.
He started writing poetry at tender age of eight, but it wasn’t until the age of 60 that he published his first collection, Shayad, which would go on to become one of his most celebrated works.
On his death anniversary, his admirers remember late writer to honor his profound legacy, celebrating his enduring influence on the world of Urdu poetry.
