Health CEOs to be held accountable for poor healthcare delivery

The Punjab Director General Health Services organized departmental review meeting, which was attended by Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) from all 36 District Health Authorities. The meeting presided jointly by DG Health Dr Haroon Jehangir Khan, Primary and Secondary Health Secretary Capt (r) Usman Younis and Secretary Health South Punjab Mr Muhammad
Ajmal Bhatti. While reviewing the performance it was revealed that department has successfully accomplished new recruitments of Doctors and Vaccinators. Substantial improvement is seen in polio environmental samples. Polio vaccination campaign has much improved as revealed by Data Quality Assurance Surveys conducted by World Health Organization. Department has achieved 100% availability of free essential medicines as per approved list at all 2500 Basic Health Units, 130 Rural Health Centres, all Tehsil Headquarters Hospital and non-teaching DHQ Hospitals. 24/7 Basic Health Units have ensure availability of delivery services round the clock. Meeting participants discussed the issues and bottle necks in enhanced service delivery. Secretary P&SH ensure that speedy departmental promotions will ensured to fill vacant positions for senior level staff.
Capt (r) Usman applauded the performance of CEOs of TT Sing and Sargodha on achieving top positions in healthcare service delivery. He said that strict accountability and attractive reward system is being implemented and all health managers have to work hard to satisfy their professional obligation in larger public interest. It was shared that P&SHC stood second in utilization of allocated development funds. He reiterated on transparency and compliance to public procurement rules in true letter and spirit while spending public exchequer.
