PM also credited Field Marshal Asim Munir as the key figure who kept the fragile talks alive. According to the prime minister, Munir remained continuously engaged “day and night,” refusing to let the diplomatic effort fall apart even when tensions peaked and agreement appeared impossible.
“There were moments when it felt the negotiations would completely break down,” Sharif told lawmakers, adding that Munir’s persistence and resolve “extinguished the flames of war” and prevented the collapse of what could have become a major regional catastrophe.
He further praised Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and their teams for what he called relentless behind-the-scenes efforts. Sharif also acknowledged the diplomatic involvement of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and China, crediting them for supporting mediation at critical moments.
The outcome of talks is a 14-point memorandum of understanding that could reshape regional geopolitics. The reported framework includes a US commitment to lift its naval blockade on Iran within 30 days and begin withdrawing forces deployed near Iranian territory.
