ISLAMABAD – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has issued a statement clarifying that recent claims about the entire crew of one of its flights being missing in Toronto, Canada, are entirely baseless.
The airline denounced the rumors as an attempt to malign both PIA and Pakistan, stating that the news circulating on social media is fake.
“A tweet, circulated by certain anti-Pakistan quarters, claiming that whole crew of a particular PIA flight is missing, is entirely baseless. Purpose of this tweet seems to malign PIA and Pakistan,” read the statement shared on X.
Earlier, social media users had claimed that a PIA aircraft, which had landed at Toronto International Airport in Canada, saw its entire crew, including the pilots, surrender to authorities and apply for asylum. The supposed incident allegedly led to new pilots being called in, with further reports suggesting that Pakistani planes would no longer operate direct flights to Canada.
PIA assured the public that there had been no such incident, and the situation was a fabricated story with no truth behind it.
The airline reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining its operations and addressing any misleading information.
Last month, a cabin crew member of PIA had reportedly gone missing after landing in Canada, becoming the third such disappearance reported by the airline this year.
