LAHORE – Punjab government made groundbreaking move toward launching its very own commercial airline — and the countdown has officially begun.
The first-ever commercial airline of Punjab is set to start operations in April, marking a bold new chapter in the province’s aviation and economic landscape. In the initial phase, seven passenger aircraft are being purchased to kickstart operations under the banner of Punjab Airline.
This ambitious initiative is being spearheaded by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, whose government is pushing full throttle to turn the long-envisioned provincial airline into reality. Officials confirm that during its first two years, Punjab Airline will operate exclusively on domestic routes, strengthening intercity connectivity and building operational capacity.
But that’s not all, after two successful years of domestic operations, the airline is set to spread its wings internationally, entering the global aviation market.
In a symbolic and strategic move, the current official helicopter of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif will be inducted into Punjab Airline, becoming its first official asset.
Sources further reveal that once the airline is operational, the Chief Minister herself will travel exclusively via Punjab Airline aircraft. No separate or special aircraft will be purchased for her. In fact, all provincial ministers and government officials will also use the airline for official travel.
Perhaps the most striking element of this mega project is the financial strategy behind it. According to insiders, a comprehensive plan is being crafted to ensure that the establishment of Punjab Airline does not impose any additional burden on the provincial exchequer.
With aircraft purchases underway, operational planning in motion, and a clear roadmap from domestic to international expansion, Punjab’s aviation dream is rapidly becoming reality.
