Gulshan-e-Hadeed Phase 2 and Phase 2 Extension have achieved uninterrupted electricity supply, becoming load-shed free following a successful anti-theft crackdown by K-Electric. The company’s efforts to curb electricity theft, which included 27 kunda (illegal connection) removal drives, resulted in the exemption of all five 11 kV distribution lines serving the area from load-shedding. Since January 2024, K-Electric has dismantled thousands of illegal connections that were not only stealing electricity but also compromising the safety and reliability of the power infrastructure.

This large-scale operation is part of a broader initiative that has seen the company conduct 16,000 such drives across Karachi, removing over 210,000 kilograms of illegal kundas. K-Electric spokesperson credited the achievement to the cooperation of local residents and elected representatives, stating that community support was essential to making Gulshan-e-Hadeed load-shed free. “Each area that becomes load-shed exempt is a milestone made possible through collaboration and understanding with the residents of the area,” the spokesperson said.

The company also facilitated the installation of electricity meters to regularize usage, ensuring residents have access to safe and reliable power. This achievement is part of K-Electric’s broader goal to improve service across the city, with 70 percent of its network now receiving uninterrupted power.

The utility continues to monitor distribution losses through a system of smart meters, allowing for targeted actions to reduce theft and improve electricity distribution
