Provincial Minister for EPD M Rizwan has said that the Green Office initiative was a significant and meaningful step towards promoting behavioural change in the corporate sector; the eco-friendly practices being adopted by green offices in Pakistan has the potential to combat climate change.
He was addressing celebration ceremony completion of 10 years of WWF Pakistan regarding the Green Office Initiative at a private hotel on Thursday. He said that the government has also set an ambitious goal of 20pc overall reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. In this regard, I would like to acknowledge the commendable efforts of WWF-Pakistan for initiating this programme in 2010 and their effective step-by-step approach in reducing carbon emissions.
WWF DG Pakistan Hammad Naqi Khan said in his address that the Green Office has done so by recruiting 100+ companies for natural resource reduction leading to cost reduction for these companies as well. This programme has targeted all the different spheres of natural resource utilization, from fuel, water and energy consumption to responsible waste disposal.
He said that recognition must also be given to all the present companies implementing this programme and I would like to encourage others to join the Green Office in Pakistan and play their part.
The minister said during his address that climate change was a global phenomenon that affects the nations of the world unequally and Pakistan is one such nation which bears most of the impact of climate change. As a result, it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to be involved, this includes the government, civil society, NGOs as well as the private sector.
Mubashar Abbas from Unilever Pakistan, Limited, said that the Green Office is a significant and the meaningful step towards promoting behavioral change in the corporate sector.
