The Green Learning Farm at the Islamabad Model School for Girls (IMSG) E-7 was inaugurated here Friday marking a groundbreaking step in sustainable education and climate literacy in Pakistan.

Led by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MOFEPT), in collaboration with Knowledge Platform and Green Guardians, the initiative showcased the country’s commitment to integrating environmental awareness into education.

Secretary Education Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani was the Guest of Honor on the occasion while Portugal ambassador Frederico Silva was among the guests of honour on the occasion. In his address, Mr Wani emphasized the government’s dedication to fostering climate literacy through hands-on learning.

The initiative, he said, represented a milestone in Pakistan’s journey toward a greener, more sustainable future with lessons that can be applied not just in schools but in homes and communities across the country. The E7 community, mobilized by Tariq Pirzada, provided strong local support. He hoped that the model of engagement would spread throughout Islamabad and beyond. Principal Samina Saeed of Islamabad Model School, E7, has brought her own experience in organic farming to the project, inspiring both students and their families to adopt sustainable practices. The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) and the E7 community were instrumental in supporting the project, which aligned with Pakistan’s national objectives and tahe UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly focusing on climate action and responsible consumption.

According to the organizers of the event, Knowledge Platform, as a key partner, provided innovative solutions for environmental education, while Green Guardians introduced experiential learning and sustainable farming methods, ensuring that the project had a tangible, lasting impact.

Together, these partners enabled the school to become a hub for environmental awareness, where students and the broader community learned about drip irrigation, composting, and natural pest control. Founder & CEO, Knowledge platform, Mehboob Mahmood on the occasion said that by educating over 1,000 students annually, the Green Learning Farm empowered youth and community members to take an active role in addressing Pakistan’s climate challenges. The initiative not only contributes to Pakistan’s commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals but also strengthens the country’s resilience to climate change.
