A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Governor Imran Ismail regarding the power supply situation in Karachi on Sunday.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Energy Omar Ayub, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Shehzad Qasim, Members of Sindh Assembly Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Haleem Adil Sheikh, Saeed Afridi, Javed Hanif of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan, Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar, Abdul Karim of GDA. Sardar Rahim, Chief Executive Officer of K Electric Monis Alvi and officials of Sui Southern Gas Company were also present on the occasion.
Governor Imran Ismail said failure to provide uninterrupted power supply cannot be tolerated and loadshedding is tantamount to injustice to the citizens.
Federal Minister Omar Ayub Khan said that the federal government would take all possible steps to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity to the citizens of Karachi.
Expressing frustration over the performance of K-Electric in the meeting, the MPs said that the citizens are very much disturbed due to over-billing. Declared and unannounced load shedding has been increased across the city. Areas also have 2 to 3 hours of load shedding. The elected representatives further said that despite the increase in load shedding, the bill was being sent in with exaggerated figures.
“Load shedding duration has been raised in parts of the city and even exempted areas are facing two to three hours of power outages,” said the lawmakers.They also complained of overbilling in the city by the power utility and said that despite hours-long outages, the consumers have been sent hiked up bills.

It is pertinent to mention here that Federal Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan summoned K-Electric Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi over excessive load shedding in Karachi on Sunday.
