Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has announced establishment of a special cell at the Governor House to conduct a proper follow-up on the criminal cases that were lodged after people lost their lives in violent incidents of armed street robberies in Karachi during the last one year.

He made the announcement on Saturday while talking to media persons after he visited the residence of Itteqa Moin, a gold medallist engineer who was shot dead by robbers last week in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, to offer condolences with the bereaved family.

Tessori said that complete data would be collected about people killed in one year in the incidents of street crimes in Karachi, the number of suspects apprehended by the police in such cases, punishment given by the courts, and freedom secured by the suspects after getting bail.

He said the special cell at the Governor House would also keep a check on the instances of the accused persons who again committed armed street robberies following their release from imprisonment after getting bail.Tessori told that the proposed cell would scrutinise all the cases of street crimes in Karachi in last one year.

The governor said instances of repeat offences by the habitual criminals involved in street robberies should come to an end. He said the government should assure the bereaved families that it was fully committed to serving justice in the cases of the killings of their loved ones in the acts of street crime in the city.

He said the tradition of using such tragic occasions merely for political point-scoring by politicians and other dignitaries should come to an end, as instead practical steps should be taken to bring such issues to a logical solution. He appreciated that the bereaved family of Moin had been showing exemplary patience and had showed trust in the police.
