Honda Atlas Cars Ltd (HACL) has discontinued production of the Honda BR-V in Pakistan, leaving the HR-V, City and Civic as the company’s remaining locally offered models.
Industry insiders said HACL had planned to phase out BR-V production several months ago, citing the vehicle’s completed product lifecycle and the difficult economic environment for introducing new models.
The BR-V was launched in Pakistan around 2016 and is now being sold at nearly three times its original price, despite its relatively outdated features and naturally aspirated engine.
People in the automobile sector said that launching a completely new model with updated features has become increasingly challenging under current business conditions. They added that the BR-V had reached the end of its product cycle, prompting the company to discontinue its production.
The model was also discontinued in India several years ago, while redesigned versions continue to be sold in markets including Malaysia and Indonesia.
