International Gold Rates

Gold also lost ground in the international market on Tuesday. The global rate declined by $6 to $4,640 per ounce, with a premium of $20.

The movement in international bullion prices remains an important factor for Pakistan’s domestic gold market, alongside changes in the rupee-dollar exchange rate and local demand.

Silver Prices

Silver prices moved in the same direction in the local market. The price of silver decreased by Rs100 per tola to Rs7,279.

Despite slight decline, gold continues to trade at historically high levels in Pakistan. The local market has recorded a strong upward trend in recent sessions, taking the price of 24-karat gold above Rs480,000 per tola.

The latest rate also keeps gold within relatively close range of the Rs500,000-per-tola psychological threshold. However, whether prices move towards that level will largely depend on international bullion trends, currency movements and demand in the domestic market.

Market participants are therefore closely watching global gold prices and the exchange rate for further signals as both factors can quickly influence domestic bullion rates.
