The body of a minor girl was found in a well near University Road with police alleging that she had been sexually assaulted before being killed and dumped there.

According to police officials the investigation began after Ayat Noor went missing from near her home around 15 days ago. Investigators used CCTV footage and modern technology to trace her movements. Footage allegedly showed the child leaving with a boy which helped police identify and detain suspects.

Ayat Noor’s funeral prayer was offered on Monday at the Khad Factory ground where thousands of citizens gathered to pay their final respects.

The huge turnout reflected the anger and grief gripping the community following the horrific incident.

Police have so far arrested five suspects in connection with the case. Officials said most of those arrested are reportedly below the age of 16 and belong to the same colony.

During the investigation, the main suspect allegedly confessed before a magistrate that Ayat Noor had been abducted and taken to a nearby ground where she was allegedly sexually assaulted. Investigators said the suspects initially did not reveal where the child’s body had been dumped.
