GCU holds orientation ceremony

King Edward Medical University Lahore Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal on Tuesday shared reminiscences about his student life at Government College Lahore back in late 1970s.
He was addressing the orientation session of newly-admitted pre-medical students of Government College University Lahore on the special invitation of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi.
“It was a matter of great pride for me that I spent my student days in the hostel in the same room where Poet of the East Allama Muhammad Iqbal stayed as the student of GC Lahore,” Prof Gondal said. Besides imparting world class education, the KEMU VC said universities should focus on character building and personality development of students through their active participation in debates, sports and other co-curricular activities.
He advised the students to join the medical profession with an aim to serve the humanity. Prof. Gondal shared his achievements and memories of college life to motivate students, saying that “if a village boy like me becomes the Vice Chancellor of two prestigious medical universities, you could also achieve what you aspire through education and hard work.”
Earlier, Vice Chancellor Prof. Asghar Zaidi apprise students about the university’s academic culture, historic perspective and educational ambiance.
He laid a stress on quality learning and critical thinking. He advised them to put in their best to acquire the knowledge, saying that “the reward is always going to be proportionate to your efforts.”
