Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPAfrom Karachi, Bilal Ghaffar, has said that the prices of fruit, vegetable and other essential items in Ramazan are beyond the reach of the commen-men. The essential items were not being sold at the official rates or in accordance with the rate list issued by the Commissioner IftikharShallwani, he alleged in a news release issued here on Friday. The Sindh government, including Commissioner KarachiIfikharShallwani were seen helpless in front of the profiteers, he said. He further said that the departments concerned were seen fail in stopping the profiteering. He urged the provincial government to take measures for providing relief to thepeople. Moreover, it is pertinent to mention that prices of the essential food items including pulses and wheat have shot up by 20 percent in the wholesale market as the Sindh government begins enforcing stricter measures for practising social distancing to control Covid-19 in the province. “Prices of essential food items, especially pulses have increased by up to 20 per cent in the wholesale market,” said Karachi Retail Grocers Association (KRGA) Secretary General FaridQureshi. According to the details, the price of split Bengal gram (channa) was raised by 8 per cent that is Rs10/kg, bringing it to Rs135/kg from Rs125 on March 20.
