Four K-Electric field employees were severely injured when a local mob attacked them during an anti-electricity theft operation in Abysinia Lines on Tuesday. The workers, who were disconnecting illegal power connections (kundas), were targeted by area residents allegedly involved in electricity theft. The injured staff members were immediately shifted to a nearby private hospital for emergency treatment. This marks the second such incident in recent days, with a similar attack reported earlier in the same area during another disconnection drive. K-Electric spokesperson revealed that widespread electricity theft in the Lines Area has led to outstanding dues exceeding Rs 270 million, putting additional strain on the city’s power supply system.
Despite these incidents, the company has vowed to continue its anti-theft operations across Karachi. K-Electric strongly condemned the violence, stating, “Such attacks will not deter the commitment to taking firm action against electricity theft. We appeal to residents and local authorities to ensure the safety of our employees during these operations.” FIRs have been registered against the attackers, and law enforcement agencies are pursuing legal action.
The utility company has emphasized the need for strict measures to address electricity theft, which remains a major challenge in Karachi, causing financial losses and frequent outages. K-Electric reiterated its determination to eliminate illegal connections and provide uninterrupted electricity to paying consumers, underscoring the importance of cooperation from local communities to achieve this goal.
