Former 21 cricket captains renew appeal for Imran Khan’s medical treatment

Imran Khan Shifted To Pims For Medical Evaluation Under Tight Security

ISLAMABAD – As many as 21 internationally renowned former cricket captains have written another letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, reiterating their appeal for proper medical treatment for former Pakistan captain and PTI founder Imran Khan.

In the letter, the former cricketers expressed concern over recent developments concerning Imran Khan’s medical care, saying they believed the situation did not comply with the directions issued by Pakistan’s Supreme Court.

The signatories said the Supreme Court had directed that Imran Khan be transferred to a hospital so that an independent medical board could examine him.

According to the letter, the board was to include Imran Khan’s personal physicians as well as his sister Dr Uzma Khan.

The former captains also referred to the court’s direction regarding the restoration of weekly meetings between Imran Khan and his family.

The cricketing figures urged the Pakistani authorities to ensure that the Supreme Court’s directions were implemented and that Khan received appropriate medical attention.

The letter has been signed by several prominent former international captains and cricket personalities, including Michael Atherton, Alex Blackwell, Allan Border, Mike Brearley, Greg Chappell, Ian Chappell, Belinda Clark, Alastair Cook, Mike Gatting, Sunil Gavaskar, Le Germain, Adam Gilchrist, David Gower, Kim Hughes, Nasser Hussain, Clive Lloyd, Kapil Dev, Arjuna Ranatunga, Andrew Strauss, Dilip Vengsarkar, Steve Waugh and John Wright.

The renewed appeal comes amid continued political and legal debate over Imran Khan’s health and access to medical facilities while he remains in custody.

The former cricketers said their intervention was motivated by concern for Khan’s health and their longstanding connection with him as a fellow international cricketer and former captain.

The development is likely to draw further attention to the implementation of the Supreme Court’s directives concerning Khan’s medical examination and family access.
