OVER the last few years, the multi billion dollars China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has proved to be an economic lifeline for us.
It addressed our road and power infrastructure bottlenecks and now cooperation between the two countries is expanding in areas of industries, agriculture and many others.
The success of cooperation in these productive sectors will definitely put Pakistan on strong economic footing.
This is something that is not digestible to some forces. Addressing the CPEC Summit at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on CPEC Affairs Khalid Mansoor said the United States is in cahoots with India in hatching conspiracies against the corridor project.
He said the US supported by India is inimical to the CPEC and it will not let the project succeed. Indeed we cannot afford to forgo any of its benefits. The very enmity of the US and India to the project is apparent from day one.
On several occasions the US officials have severely criticised the project while India has been involved in terrorist attacks inside Pakistan especially in Balochistan and the most recent one at the site of Dasu Dam, to sabotage the project.
We have no doubt in saying that enemies of this game changer project will fail in their sordid designs as long as both Pakistan and China are committed and firm in taking it forward and make it a successful model.
Unlike the US, China is a reliable partner and friend of Pakistan that has always stood by us in difficult times.
The best way forward is that both Pakistan and China accelerate the pace of work on all ongoing projects as well as the ones that are in the pipeline removing all hurdles in their way.
For this, we need to enhance engagement level at different levels. It is also for our authorities to ensure foolproof security for Chinese workers engaged in different projects in Pakistan.
