Field Marshal Saudi Envoy Push For Stronger Defence Coordination Amid Me Security Crisis

RAWALPINDI – Pakistan and Saudi Arabia reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence cooperation and strategic coordination, as Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held talks with Saudi Arabia’s newly appointed ambassador, Dr. Rajeh Tami Albugamy, at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

The high-level meeting placed renewed emphasis on bilateral security cooperation, regional developments and the further expansion of defence ties between the two longstanding partners, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Discussions centred on strengthening military collaboration, reinforcing institutional links and improving strategic coordination amid evolving regional security challenges. Both sides also reviewed progress under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, expressing satisfaction with developments achieved under its framework.

The meeting focused on Islamabad and Riyadh’s resolve to build on existing cooperation and deepen engagement on security-related matters.

Field Marshal Asim Munir congratulated Dr. Albugamy on his appointment as Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Pakistan and expressed confidence that his diplomatic tenure would contribute to further strengthening relations between the two countries.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share longstanding ties rooted in common religious values, mutual trust and a strategic partnership that spans multiple sectors. Defence and security cooperation remain important pillars of their bilateral relationship.

The latest engagement signals a continued push by both countries to consolidate institutional ties, expand defence collaboration and maintain close strategic coordination as regional security dynamics continue to shift.

DG ISPR stresses dialogue to resolve ME tensions, warns of collective deterrence under Makkah pact

Islamabad Riyadh and Ankara inked Makkah Joint Defence Agreement to establish framework centred on collective defence, military coordination and strategic collaboration. The pact stated that an armed attack against one participating country will be regarded as an attack against all three. The pact aims to strengthen deterrence, improve defence preparedness and expand cooperation in military affairs.

The agreement builds on Pakistan and Saudi Arabia’s longstanding defence relationship, which gained further momentum following their bilateral Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement in September 2025. Türkiye’s participation broadens the partnership, creating opportunities for closer cooperation in defence technology, military training and joint production.

The pact comes amid evolving regional security challenges, increasing the importance of coordination among the three countries. However, its practical impact will depend on implementation arrangements, future defence initiatives and decisions taken by the participating governments during potential security crises.

Beyond military cooperation, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia maintain close economic and diplomatic relations, with investment, energy, trade and employment remaining important areas of engagement.
