PESHAWAR – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal General Asim Munir visited Peshawar and convened a Jirga with local tribal elders, underlining Pakistan’s firm stance against terrorism and cross-border threats, ISPR said Thursday.
Addressing the gathering, the top general lauded the steadfast support of the tribal communities for the security forces during the recent standoff with the Afghan Taliban. He also paid tribute to the resilience and sacrifices of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the ongoing war against terrorism, recognizing their pivotal role in maintaining regional security.
The tribal elders, in turn, reiterated their unwavering support for Pakistan’s Armed Forces in counterterrorism operations, including efforts against the Afghan Taliban.
COAS stressed that Pakistan seeks peaceful relations with all neighboring countries, including Afghanistan, but stressed that cross-border terrorism targeting Pakistan from Afghan soil will not be tolerated. He highlighted that despite continued attacks emanating from across the border, Pakistan has exercised restraint over the years and pursued multiple diplomatic and economic initiatives aimed at strengthening Pak-Afghan relations.
He also criticized the Afghan Taliban regime for allegedly assisting Indian-backed terror groups, Fitna Al Khwarij and Fitna Al Hindustan, instead of taking decisive action against them. He reassured the tribal elders that Pakistan, particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, will be systematically cleared of terrorists and their collaborators.
The visit comes amid Pakistan Army’s ongoing engagement with tribal communities and its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region, while firmly countering terrorism and cross-border threats.
