The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) thwarted a human smuggling attempt at Karachi airport on Friday, detaining four individuals with alleged connections to an Indian agent. Among the detainees was human smuggler Abdul Shakoor, along with passengers Haseeb Ahmed, Qaiser Ahmed, and Usman Ali. They were attempting to travel illegally to Poland via Azerbaijan.
An FIA spokesperson revealed that evidence recovered from Abdul Shakoor’s mobile phone pointed to his links with Indian agent Gautam Sharma. The agent was reportedly planning to facilitate the group’s illegal entry into Poland through Azerbaijan. The suspects hail from Faisalabad, Chiniot, Gujranwala, and Nankana Sahib.
During questioning, the three passengers disclosed that they had agreed to pay Abdul Shakoor Rs1.4 million each for the smuggling arrangement, providing him an advance payment of Rs250,000 per person. The smuggler had allegedly arranged their visas through Sangla Hill. The detainees have been handed over to the FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking Cell in Karachi for further investigation.
