ISLAMABAD – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has established a Crypto Currency Investigation Unit to strengthen efforts against financial crimes involving digital assets, including money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
The FIA officials said that the specialised unit has been set up on the directives of the Director General of the FIA to investigate the illegal use of crypto Currencies and enhance the agency’s capacity to deal with emerging financial threats.
The new unit will be responsible for investigating cases involving money laundering, terrorist financing, cyber-enabled financial crimes, and cryptocurrency-related fraud. It will also monitor suspicious financial transactions conducted through digital currencies and identify potential misuse of crypto platforms.
The officials said the unit will employ advanced technology and internationally recognised investigative practices to trace illicit cryptocurrency transactions and gather digital evidence. The initiative aims to improve the FIA’s ability to respond to increasingly sophisticated financial crimes linked to virtual assets.
The agency said the specialised unit will work to curb the misuse of cryptocurrencies while ensuring effective legal action against individuals and networks involved in illegal financial activities.
According to the officials, the establishment of the Cryptocurrency Investigation Unit reflects the FIA’s broader strategy to strengthen Pakistan’s framework for combating financial crime and improving oversight of the country’s rapidly evolving digital financial ecosystem.
The agency expects the new unit to enhance coordination in investigations involving virtual assets and contribute to more effective enforcement against emerging forms of cyber and financial crime.
