Federal secretary ministry of science and technology visits COMSATS university

Federal Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Nadeem Irshad Kayani visited the Islamabad Campus of COMSATS University Islamabad on Tuesday.

He was briefed about the administrative and academic affairs of the COMSATS University by the Rector, Prof. Dr. Muhammad T. Afzal.

In his remarks, Prof. Afzal expressed his commitment to make CUI among the leading centres of excellence in the World.

He said that functionalizing the statutory forums of the university as well as supporting product-oriented research in the various centers of CUI was among the key highlights of this year.

Prof. Afzal said that COMSATS University was ranked 3rd in Pakistan on the recent Times Higher Education Asian University Rankings 2021 and currently caters to a student body comprising 36,000 students through Pakistan’s largest PhD faculty pool.

The Federal Secretary underscored the need for making the university financially self-sustained and urged the management to undertake strategic planning to prioritize its development needs.

He said that promoting meritorious talents and providing graduates with opportunities to start up their own businesses were key challenges of a modern university.

In this connection he pledged the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology in attracting funds for research projects having socio economic impact at CUI.

He said that CUI needs to study and adopt best practices deployed by successful regional models of Chinese and Indian Universities in terms of quality teaching and research.
