On the directives of the Federal Ombudsman, Senior Advisor Amir Ahmed Shaikh and Senior Advisor Syed Anwar Haider conducted a “Khuli Awami Katcheri” (open public meeting) at the Deputy Commissioner Office in District Malir on Tuesday.
The session aimed to address and resolve public grievances across Malir district, with officials from various government departments, including the Deputy Commissioner of Malir, Saleemullah Odho, and representatives from federal and provincial agencies in attendance.
During the meeting, a range of complaints were voiced by citizens from areas including Gadap, Bin Qasim, Ibrahim Hyderi, and Murad Memon Goth. The concerns primarily focused on issues related to the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), NADRA, the Land Department, Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC), K-Electric, local government institutions, and other agencies. Common grievances included unjustified billing by Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and K-Electric, disruptions in the supply of natural gas, water, and electricity despite timely payments, encroachments, and other civic problems. Senior Advisor Syed Anwar Haider emphasized the need for timely action on these issues and warned that government officials would be held accountable if they failed to resolve the complaints.
He assured the public that the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat would address grievances related to over 180 federal government departments and organizations.
For complaints regarding provincial departments, the forum would forward them to the appropriate bodies. Haider highlighted that the Federal Ombudsman is legally authorized to resolve complaints within 60 days and can take action against negligent officers.
He encouraged the public to utilize the platform for addressing their legitimate grievances with federal institutions. Deputy Commissioner Saleemullah Odho welcomed such initiatives and pledged to continue organizing similar forums in the future to ensure public issues are resolved efficiently.
