Berlin & Munich — Federal Minister for Defence, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, visited Germany last week to enhance Pakistan’s diplomatic, economic, and defence relations with the country.
In Berlin, Minister Asif engaged with German media, including Die Welt and DW Urdu, on international and regional issues. He also met with officers of the Pakistan Embassy at Pakistan House, underscoring the Pakistani diaspora’s important role in promoting national interests abroad.
The Minister held high-level meetings with NielsAnnen, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ); Mr. Thomas Röwekamp, Member of the German Parliament and Head of the Defence Committee; and Mr. Florian Hahn, Minister of State at the German Foreign Office. Discussions focused on deepening defence, economic, and diplomatic cooperation.
According to sources, talks also included enhancing Pakistan’s defence system, broader security issues, including counter-terrorism measures, and the repatriation of Afghan citizens to their respective country. Minister Asif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding its borders and sovereignty.
A bilateral session with German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius highlighted strategic defence collaboration between the two countries.
In Munich, Minister Asif, accompanied by Ambassador SaqlainSyedah, visited Pakistani exhibitors at ISPO 2025, commending them for presenting Pakistan’s sports products internationally. Saud Bin Nauman, a leading member of the Pakistani diaspora, welcomed the Minister and raised the issue of resuming direct Pakistan International Airlines flights between Germany and Pakistan, which Minister Asifassured would be reviewed.
Minister Asif recognized the Pakistani diaspora in Europe as a valuable national asset and hinted at positive developments in Pakistan’s foreign, economic, and defence affairs. The Minister completed his official engagements on Tuesday and returned to Pakistan.
