FCC rejects Bushra Bibi’s plea seeking sentence suspension in £190m case

Bushra Bibi Booked Under Telegraph Act For Blaming Saudi Arabia

ISLAMABAD – The Federal Constitutional Court has rejected a petition filed by Bushra Bibi, wife of former prime minister Imran Khan, seeking suspension of her sentence in the £190 million corruption case.

A FCC two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan dismissed bail petition of Bushra Bibi after considering the question of its maintainability.

The court had reserved its decision on the matter earlier in the day before announcing its verdict.

Bushra Bibi had approached the court seeking relief in the case commonly known as the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case.

Her petition sought the suspension of her sentence, which was awarded in connection with the corruption allegations involving the transfer of funds linked to the case.

The court’s decision to reject the petition means that the relief sought through this application has not been granted.

The development comes amid ongoing legal proceedings involving Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in cases registered against them.

The £190 million case centres on allegations that financial benefits were provided to Imran Khan and his wife in connection with the settlement of funds returned to Pakistan by the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA).

The funds, worth approximately £190 million, were returned to Pakistan under a settlement agreement with a property tycoon.

Prosecutors have alleged that the arrangement resulted in financial benefits for the businessman and caused losses to the national exchequer. Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have denied wrongdoing.

The case has remained a significant legal and political issue, with proceedings against the former prime minister and his wife drawing considerable attention.
