ISLAMABAD – Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial has clarified that there is no proposal currently under consideration to increase taxes on solar panels in the upcoming fiscal budget for 2025-26.

The reassurance comes as a major relief for households and businesses looking to invest in solar energy systems. With electricity costs on the rise and power outages still affecting several areas, solar energy continues to gain popularity across Pakistan as a sustainable and cost-effective alternative.

Over the past few years, the government has actively encouraged the adoption of renewable energy, particularly solar power, as part of its broader strategy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and promote environmental sustainability.

Exemptions on import duties and sales tax for solar equipment have been a key incentive driving the growth of solar installations in both urban and rural regions.

Citizens and businesses who are planning to switch to solar energy in the near future can now proceed without concerns of sudden cost increases due to new taxes in the upcoming budget.

Talking to media, the FBR chairman further said talks are underway with the International Monetary Fund to provide relief to salaried class.

Solar Panel Latest Prices

The price of Grade-A 585-watt solar panel, previously sold for Rs. 22,000, has now come down to around Rs. 16,500.

Further price cuts may be on the horizon as the market continues to adjust to the new policy. The price drop also sparked surge in consumer interest, with many citizens looking to get low cost setup to invest in solar solutions.
