ISLAMABAD – A local court on Tuesday granted bail to former Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry in a fraud case.

Judicial Magistrate Dr. Suhail Tahim approved the bail against surety bond of Rs100,000 in the case. Fawad Chaudhary was accused of taking Rs 5 million from a citizen to provide him a job during the PTI government.

The Aabpara police had booked Fawad Chaudhary in the case.

Earlier,  he had announced a complete boycott of the general elections set for February 8.

In a letter addressed to the Election Commission, Fawad Chaudhry expressed his discontent, emphasizing the importance of meaningful choices in the electoral process.

Fawad wrote, “What is the essence of elections if genuine choices are absent? My arrest was orchestrated to ensure my disqualification from participating in the electoral process,”.

The former minister highlighted instances of alleged intimidation and baseless arrests of their party workers. He further pointed out the unjust rejection of his nomination papers and the acceptance of his brother’s documents, leading to his unwarranted inclusion as a co-accused in a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) case.

Fawad also criticized the Election Commission, saying it failed to fulfill its duties. Given these circumstances, he declared a complete boycott of the upcoming elections by his group.

It is pertinent to mention that Fawad Chaudhry is currently in NAB custody, facing corruption allegations related to a housing project in Jhelum.
