Karachi-born female Tennis player dies in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD – Karachi-born female tennis player Zainab Ali Naqvi passed away in Islamabad on Tuesday

The 17-year-old had traveled to Islamabad to compete in the ITF Juniors Tournament.

According to reports, Zainab went swimming after her match and, upon a delay, was found to have passed away after the door was broken down.

Zainab Ali Naqvi was a prominent player in the Karachi region, having secured victories in events at both the Karachi and Sindh levels. The Pakistan Tennis Federation confirmed the news, stating, “Zainab Ali Naqvi, a young tennis player who had come from Karachi to Islamabad for the ITF Juniors Tournaments, passed away in Islamabad on the night of February 12, 2024.”

“PTI President Asam ul Haq Qureshi, Former PTI President Senator Salim Saifullah Khan, PTI Council members, and numerous members of the tennis community extend their deepest condolences to the grieving family. May Allah grant the departed soul eternal peace,”.

Today’s ITF Juniors matches were dedicated to Zainab’s memory, and tomorrow’s matches will proceed as scheduled.

On Tuesday, a collective prayer was held for all international and Pakistani players, parents, coaches, PTI representatives, and officials, observing a moment of silence.
